Terra Sigillata Introduction

Service Description

Terra sigillata is a silky fine slip that gently accentuates clay in a different way to glazes. It is a wonderful back drop for saggar firing effects under low fire conditions, and can give depth to surface in partnership with glazes at mid fire temperatures. This workshop is for people with some clay experience, ceramicists and sculptors, seeking to include Terra Sigillata as part of creative process, and who may be interested in the saggar firing course later in the year. This course is right for you if you have : - some experience with clay and making - none or some experience with terra sigillata - a desire for hands on learning and discussion - an interest in finishing techniques outside of glazes - an interest in saggar firing You will learn: - overview and examples of terra sig - technical tips for success - to prepare and siphon terra sig - working with colour - application and burnishing (polishing) This course will provide access to : - step by step support - practice through making - all materials required, including terra sig and test tiles - tools and equipment as required - personal protective equipment (mask and gloves if required) $100 Payment Includes : - 1 x 3hr session - focused tuition on terra sig make and application - hard copy document of course notes - the completed tiles are yours to keep - bisque firing service Not Included : - General kiln firing services - The Clay Effect finishes (slips to glazes) - Personal tool kit set up
