Service Description

Shift gears from expectation to exploration, discover the fascinating process of firing ceramics within sealed vessels (saggars), and allow alchemy of the firing process embellish your clay. This workshop is for people with some clay experience, ceramicists and sculptors, wanting to explore the magical nature of saggar firing in an electric kiln. This course is right for you if you have : - some experience with clay and making - none or some experience with saggar firing - a desire for hands on learning and discussion - an interest in saggar firing processes and results You will learn: Day 1 – Make 1-2 pieces with design in mind (15cm max). Make saggar pot for your work. Your pieces and pots will be fired prior to next session. For those wanting to apply terra sig to their pieces, this will need to be arranged during class times (shed sessions). Day 2 – Explore possible effects of organic materials. Decorate your pieces. Prepare saggar and load kiln. Clean up. Day 3 – The reveal! Clean and review the results. Explore finishing options.
