Service Description

Our plaster mold making workshop is for people with some clay experience, ceramicists and sculptors, seeking to learn the fundamentals of replication by making and using simple plaster molds for press and slip casting. We will work predominantly with plaster and clay, creating simple one and two piece molds. Working with plaster can get messy, so please wear old clothes and closed shoes. This course is right for you if you have : - none or some experience with plaster and mold making - some experience with clay and making - a desire to learn through making - an interest in learning replication techniques and working with clay You will learn: Day one – Mold making overview. Working with plaster tips. How to calculate plaster required. Create a simple sprig/relief model and make a press mold. Create a simple vessel model and make press mold. Day two – Finish off any work from Day one. Make a slip cast mold from a found object. Clean up molds, address any immediate mold issues. Day three – Cast both press and slip cast molds. This course will provide access to : - step by step support - practice through making - all materials required, including plaster, clay and prepared casting slip - tools and equipment as required - personal protective equipment (mask, and gloves if required) $300 Payment Includes : - 3 x 3-5hr sessions (depending on plaster) - focused tuition on traditional mold making techniques - hard copy document of course notes - specific projects to complete - the completed molds and clay pieces are yours to keep - bisque firing service Not Included : - General kiln firing services - The Clay Effect finishes (slips to glazes) - Personal tool kit set up What to bring on day one (don’t worry, I will send you some examples prior to the workshop) - a basic repeatable ornamental design for your relief that you can create in clay within approx. 30 minutes. Item base W 10cm x 30cm - a simple item for recasting, such as a plastic or glass ornament, or you can make a clay model. Item dimensions must not exceed 15cm.

Cancellations will be accepted up to 15 days prior to the course commencing. Please contact Mel directly M:0438161213 E: Mel@theclayeffect.com.au If your cancelled place can be filled, then you will receive your refund in full. If your cancelled place is not filled, then the refunded amount will be 50% of the workshop price. Money will be transferred the week after the first workshop date. Refunds will not be provided for workshop non-attendance, in full or in part.
